What are my Gentle Readers planning for this Thanksgiving -- only a week away at this point? Hell, who's planning on going to a Beaujolais Nouveau dinner at Vin Rouge or Rue Cler, or doing something elsewhere? I'll probably be very un-celebratory over the next couple months due to the Current Unpleasantness. :(
I'll be heading to Phoenix to do T-day there with my sister's family. This will be the first Thanksgiving, spent with the family, where I will primarily be doing everything. Last year, my mother, who has always micromanaged everything at the holiday meals, let me do most things. She was in her second year of cancer treatment and wasn't doing too well at the time. She passed away in July of this year, so this will be the first Thanksgiving where I'll try to live up to 40 years of perfect and memorable feasts. This'll be one for mom.

Jack -- Crap. I didn't know your mom had died. I'm sorry.
I remember the story you told me once about going to a (potluck?) meal at someone's house in Chicago; they told you something like you didn't have to bring much because you were a guy. I also remember you, uh, came through despite your guyness. :)
