A laundry list of short items today:
- I noticed yesterday Pao Lim/Kimono on 15-501 Business near University Green is becoming "Red Zen," which appears to be another pan-Asian place. No idea on whether there was a change of ownership. It must be tough to be over there with the rather popular Thai Cafe just down the street, but it's neat how University Green and Rockwood in general has turned into such a little food Mecca.
- Speaking of being tough to be in business, the Boston Market at Northgate Mall appears to have, er, chickened out and flown town. The corporate WWW site says the closest one is now in Chapel Hill. I'm surprised local favorite Time-Out doesn't beat the, er, stuffing out of them. :)
- I got e-mail last night that Craig Heffley and Seth Gross at Wine Authorities are amicably splitting up ownership of their wine business: Craig will be sole owner of WA as Seth transitions into running his nascent Bull City Burger & Brewery in downtown Durham. BCB&B is shooting to be open in three months. I wish them both continued success in both endeavors. (Speaking of which, any word lately on Andrew Magowan's brewpub-to-be at West Geer & Foster, catty-corner from King's Sandwich Shop?)
- The Durham (NC) Convention & Visitors Bureau did a survey of local favorite places for dining out. They just posted on their blog the results for 2010. Current (and past) results are also on their web site, going back to 2008. As it can be hard for vegetarians around Durham to catch a break, I should point out that their recommendations for vegetarians are "Toast, Sitar India Palace, Dos Perros, and Saladelia Cafe."
(I feel I should add I went to Sitar several days ago, not having been since they moved. My dining companions chose the buffet, which I used to do for lunch in the previous location. But it really didn't seem worth the almost $20/person it cost. I hope their food quality for non-buffet items hasn't worsened as much as their prices have gone up.) - Speaking of surveys, we haven't done any polls in a while, have we? :)
According to friends who were at the local chefs event at the library earlier this month, Andy Magowan said he wanted/planned to be opening in April. Which seems insanely ambitious to me.
