That was kind of surprising: in a month I accumulated only 7 nominations. Also, very few Main Street/Brightleaf/Downtown establishments made it on there. The short list so far, in alphabetical order:
The reason I'm not putting up the poll yet is that I have room for a couple more nominations. Frinstance, I'm kinda surprised no one nominated the Fed, although if no one does, I won't put it up there. So, going once... twice....
FWIW, I love the particularly confusing set of comments accompanying this post on Cook Out.

Bull McCabe's should be on the list (try the burger with egg on it!!)

OK, fine, twisted my arm, I'll nominate the Federal Burger. I think I meant to earlier, but was sidetracked, or maybe I just haven't had one in a while & was concerned it might've slipped.
Speaking of slipping, when did they eliminate brunch?

Please do add Federal. Their burger au poivre with Gruyere added is dynamite!

Yah - good call on the Fed. I just had the burger with Gruyere last night, and it was fantastic. Be careful - it comes with mustard on it by default for those picky about condiments (like me).

Dammit. I need to go get a burger now. I think I've only had burgers from two of those places. Maybe three, but I don't remember what the one from Cook Out is like.

Stewie? I could use someone buying me a burger and some hush puppies.... ;)

What, no King's Sandwich Shop?
Maybe they're out of the running, being closed and all. I just remember a hamburger one could eat with a ladle and onion rings dripping with twice their weight in grease.
Delicious grease.

the delicious conundrum that hangs over cookout is the fact that the burgur is so frikkin good and greasy and covered in good stuff, that you want to get home or somewhere to savor it and stay clean....
but its covered in so much grease and delicious stuff, that the bun literally disintegrates into mush by the time you get it home...lol
Bad ass shakes, though...and actually really good cajun filet sandwich, and hot dog platters

I forgot the rules.. does anyone know what the S and T's burgers are like over in Pittsboro? What about Char-Grill or is that a chain? Speaking of which one is coming to Durham in the disaster that is known as Hope Valley Commons where 54 and 751 meet.

i've gotta say Watts Grocery has one awesome burger as well...

The perfect cure for a hangover is a Cook-Out tray with an Out West (or is it Old West?) style burger, a corndog, fries w/ Cajun seasoning and big iced tea. Nap optional.

Out West! the only way to have a cookout burger!

I'll nominate the Fed, they grind their own meat and I can get it still mooing, so i'm happy with it!

Regarding S&Ts, the rules of inclusion may not be that relevant. The burger is nothin' special. The reason to go is the huge-arse ice creams, the shakes, and the small town atmosphere. Just one (Chatham) guy's opinion.

I nominate 2 burgers: Saw Mill Tap in Raleigh. Great meat, lots of choices in toppings.
Raleigh Times Bar: great burger that's easy to overlook for all the other fine things on the menu.

A couple of people mentioned rules... the rules are that I get to do whatever the hell I want. :) More seriously, a lot of time I leave out chains, but I don't think I can leave Cook Out off here, and I don't think I want to. I think I am going to restrict the poll to Durham, though -- sorry.
