Kevin over at Bull City Rising says there's going to be a wine sale today -- Saturday, 2 June, from 10 to 2, on the back porch of Parker and Otis at Peabody Place. It's supposed to include wine from former Fowler's stock. Hopefully this is a prelude to their opening the store. I did notice Friday that the old Fowler's awning has been removed from the front of the building. Sounds like they're making progress.

That makes me sad.

I know what you mean. I've been going in Fowler's since January 1985 when it was at Brightleaf. This was the third set of owners as well as the second location (since I'd been going there). When they closed several months ago, I was trying to scare up interest in a wake, but it's probably too late now.
BTW, I saw several people at Pop's tonight wearing "parker and otis" t-shirts. They all had the name on the back, and food words on the front, in brown and white. I think one said "beer," and a couple had on matching ones that said "cake" and "frosting." :)

If Parker and Otis has t-shirts that say "beer", "cake" and "frosting", than I'm willing to give it a chance.

My friend Trip went to the wine sale, and he said the line was around the corner. He finally made it inside by 10:30, and by that time there were 4 bottles of wine left and they had begun selling the wine racks. The line was still around the corner, so I'm sure there were some very disappointed people a short while later.

I arrived at 10 to surprising crowd. While waiting n line I spoke to someone behind me who said that power to the building had been shut off at some point this year, and that heat had caused some of the Champagne bottles to explode. I suspect that the majority of wine they sold was probably ruined.

As a purchaser of 2 cases of wine from parker and otis's fowler's fire sale, I assure you that the wine was neither ruined or 'corked.' Our 20+ guests sunday evening at a birthday celebration loved the selection of fine wines we provided and happily, it has sparked major interest in parker and otis!
