This week's Independent is their now-quarterly Dish issue. This issue's theme: Bread. A couple of articles are by David Auerbach, who's written repeatedly for the Indy, and whose articles I've liked. He's also got his own 5-ton wood-fired outdoor oven in which to bake his bread, among other things. One of his articles is about bread books he likes; those of you who've been engaging in your own bread-baking adventures should take note. There's also a short essay by Jason Bissey, Rue Cler's sous chef, about Kevin Farmer, the master baker for the expanding Rue Cler/Pop's baking empire. And there are four or so other bready articles. Anyway, go get your weekly Codependent Independent dose. :)
I thought of you when I saw the latest Indy; I've only had time to read a bit of it, but I have some oven-envy looking at that brick behemoth. I bet that can make some Crust.

I've always wanted some sort of huge outdoor stone or brick cooking place. An oven for bread and the like would be nice; a grill would also be nice. I don't want anything fancy, really -- I've just always had this fantasy about stacking up a lot of brick in my back yard and working a grill into it.
