Food blog by Joe: Food, drink, cooking, dining; at home, in Durham, NC, the Research Triangle, and elsewhere
- As of 28 November, someone is already tearing up the floor at the former location of Joe & Jo's. Hopefully that means whatever is to come will come soon.
- During the same day's perambulation, I went by Fowler's, and walked up to the front door to see if the sign said anything new. It didn't. However, from looking through the rather wide crack in the front door, it doesn't look like anything in the store has changed. This could mean:
- They've done work that I can't see through my rather restricted viewpoint, or
- They haven't done any work, but they're going to reopen the store (the stock looks like it's still there), or
- They've been lying the whole time about what they're doing. Argh.
- Edit: Fowler's now has an announcement on their web site that they are permanently closed. Double Argh. FWIW, the announcement appears to be dated today.
- Work still seems ongoing at Alivia's, and also across the street at Piazza Italia at Brightleaf. [Edit: I originally spelled the name "Olivia's" because I'm a dolt. Also, Alivia's has a placeholder WWW site up]
- Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.
Ok, I heard some supposedly inside information that the stock *has* already mostly been sold, before the Herald-Sun even got any comments from the owner, and that everything that's been told to the paper is a flat-out lie. Whether someone else is buying the space, I don't know, but it's current incarnation seems to be dead. Alas.

Work does indeed continue at Piazza Italia; I work upstairs from there and hear and/or smell what they're doing every day. After six months or however the hell long they've been working on the place, I'm more than a little sick of it. I think they owe me and my coworkers at least one free lunch after all they've put us through.
Also? Unless pizza has a major spot on their menu, I think "Piazza Italia" is a bad name, because most people are stupid and won't be able to discern the difference between "Piazza" and "Pizza."
