... There appears to be some leeway with regards to what can be thrown onto the ice following a hat trick, as witnessed after the Nashville Predators' Paul Kariya scored a hat trick on 18 April 2006, when two catfish were thrown on the ice and no penalty was given....

More Bulls than you can swing a bat at

For those of you with an interest in baseball or local history, Gary had a really good post up today at Endangered Durham about the DAP, aka El Toro Ballpark.  There's a lot of stuff in there I didn't know.  For instance, the original El Toro park burned down in the late 30s, and was rebuilt.  Also, "From 1932 to the 1940s, Durham was the headquarters of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues."  Many different teams have played there over the past 75 years. 

Neat stuff.  And I'm not even much of a baseball fan. 

Canine revenge

I know the Michael Vick stuff is old news, but I couldn't help posting the first funny thing I've seen come out of it:

In a cardinal sin for an area resident, I'm not much of a basketball fan.  Now I have yet another reason not to watch college basketball.  Maybe I should watch, just to see another outbreak of rude and bad behavior.  Hell, it might be better than my old favorite.

It'd be interesting to nice to know what else is going on here.  Even the current news reports aren't consistent. 

If his femoral artery was pierced and he's even alive, he's a lucky MF.  If he doesn't have brain damage, he'll be extremely lucky -- until someone breaks into his house again or tries to kill him. 

Edit: I guess he wasn't so lucky after all. 

Happy Thanksgiving

Some combination of the Kanye West's mom/Jan Adams weirdness on Larry King, Barry's posting "Alice's Restaurant," and the holiday made me wonder about what was the weirdest thing I've ever seen live on TV -- not a show or anything staged, but a live event.  I guess I've seen some pretty weird things that were "news," like the OJ Simpson low-speed chase and the (almost) 3rd game of the 1989 World Series.  But the first thing that sprang to mind was Jim Rome's interview of Jim Everett on ESPN2 in 1994, which I saw live with my friend Rob: 

Rob and I were glued to the set the next night to see what Rome would have to say about the incident.
