The Durham Police have found the head of the decapitated Museum of Life and Science dinosaur.  Excellent.  Now I guess we need a fundraiser to get the dinosaur re-assembled.  [via Barry.]

Bull Shirt

I was at Bull McCabe's tonight, wearing the "Major Durham" shirt: the shirt I made using the sepia-toned picture I took of "Major" with the CCB Building in the background.  (It's the picture in the sidebar.) Probably about 10 people seemed interested in the shirt, and several asked me how to get one.  Well, this works:

Personally, I think that the light tan or "natural" shirt looks the best, given the way the sepia-toned picture's sky melds with the shirt color.  But that's just me. 

If you want one that says "Durham: It's Not Just For Breakfast Anymore" on the back, make sure you get one that has double-sided printing.  I think the shirts are expensive, but that's CafePress, not me: I don't mark them up a penny.

TechShop Durham

Perhaps one of my gentle readers can tell me something about TechShop Durham?

More Bulls than you can swing a bat at

For those of you with an interest in baseball or local history, Gary had a really good post up today at Endangered Durham about the DAP, aka El Toro Ballpark.  There's a lot of stuff in there I didn't know.  For instance, the original El Toro park burned down in the late 30s, and was rebuilt.  Also, "From 1932 to the 1940s, Durham was the headquarters of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues."  Many different teams have played there over the past 75 years. 

Neat stuff.  And I'm not even much of a baseball fan. 

I'll weather this

In the "Things I'm Thankful For" department: the weather around here lately.  Right now it's 77°F. and sunny, with enough fair-weather cumulus to cast an occasional pleasant bit o' shade.  Humidity is low, despite the fact that we've had enough rain to almost move us out of the drought category.  Today's weather makes me want to run nekkid through the grass, but I'm not going to do that, because I like and respect my neighbors too much.  ;)

Urban coyotes (PDF alert), not to be confused with Urban Cowboys, are apparently all over the place, including Durham.  Coyotes are the new wolves. 

Not in the middle of the bell curve

Durham Magazine has been sighted in the wild, as noted elsewhere. The magazine's WWW site is new, but says "Website Coming April 2008", which didn't make my head explode, as I'm not exactly in the middle of the bell curve. 

Love seeing Scott Howell eating a biscuit from Biscuitville on the front cover; hate that they consistently mis-spelled "Watts Grocery" as "Watt's Grocery" through the entire magazine.  Doesn't anybody look into these things?  (And no, I didn't misspell "mis-spelled": I just think it looks better that way, prolly because I'm not exactly in the middle of the bell curve.) 

Anyway, the folks over at Kevin's BCR look like they're already getting as excited about the new magazine as they did last time, because... well, let's face it: none of them are exactly in the middle of the bell curve, either.  :)
