Lucky me: I got another automated call from Mr. Stith today. This one was about how crime is getting worse in Durham (funny -- I thought most crime, with a few exceptions, was down), and what he was doing as a City Council member to get rid of crime. I wish there were some way to get off this jerk's call list.
Edit: Even though this call wasn't so outrageous as the last one, I decided to transcribe it anyway:
This is Thomas Stith. This past weekend, another 15-year old child was shot, and a police officer was shot responding to a burglary. The August police department crime report shows a 45% increase in murder, and burglary up 11% from last year. As a councilman, I recommended putting more police officers on the street, and partnering with the Federal Government to force longer jail terms for crimes committed with guns, as well as the use of RICO laws to crack down on gang activity. Thank you for your time.
FWIW, I think the call was at about 2 pm (25 September). I'll leave off making any commentary for now.
Does anyone local have any interest in going to see Eastern Promises over the next few days? It looks like it's going to be gone from Durham theaters by Friday, so it'll have to be during the week this week. I didn't realize this was a David Cronenberg film. And hey, you'll get to see Aragorn nekkid -- I'm sure someone out there will enjoy that. :) Anyway, I'd like to get a crew together and go. Ping me.
The autumnal equinox is tomorrow -- Sunday -- at approximately 5:54 am EDT (23 September 9:54 UT). Summer will be over, and fall (or autumn, as the folks across the pond would say) will begin. Day and night will be of approximately equal length on that day.
The moon will be full on Wednesday, the 26th; by most folks' reckoning, that full moon will be the Harvest Moon. I hope to get up a post about moon names by then, but I've been trying to get one up for a couple months, and haven't done it yet. We'll see.
