Yeah, no bull: TV Ads Overstate Benefits of Medication.
Several years ago, I spent about three years with no TV. I didn't get the paper or many magazines then either. After someone gave me a TV, I was shocked at how much advertising there was for prescription drugs, as there'd been none previously. I know drug companies are entitled to spend their revenue on whatever they like, but they must have a frakload of revenue to start with to afford so much advertising. And the effects are all indirect, as the typical recipient of the advertising can't go out and directly buy a prescription drug.
Try watching these ads with the sound off some time. You'll still want the stuff, even when you can't tell what it is. Doctors must hate this crap.
