Rockwood Filling Station

Rumor has it that Scott Howell, Food Dynasty Builder Extraordinaire, will open the Rockwood Filling Station today, if all requisite certifications and licensing come through.  RFS was described to me as a pizza and wings place, and is located in-between Nana's and the Original Q-Shack.  The signs went up yesterday.  I'm looking forward to anything Scott has his hand in.  I'll try to check again and post when I've confirmed that they're actually open.

Some Durham history:  The building where the Q-Shack is now was previously the location of an earlier business also called Rockwood Filling Station; it was earlier called the Rockwood Dairy Bar.  And if any more food-related places go in there at Rockwood/University Green, the whole intersection will need to be called Rockwood I'm-Really-Full Station.  :)

Edit:  Report is that a sign on the door says Rockwood Filling Station will be open at 5 pm today (16 July 2008).

Edit2: Kevin at BCR has some pictures up

It did indeed. I'll have some crappy-quality pics and a few words up on my blog about it in the morning. Place was PACKED especially with (from what I can tell) no broad announcement about the big first night.

Had they opened yesterday I could have made it, but tonight was potluck. Asi es la vida.

My husband and I ate there on Friday night. We really enjoyed our meal. Both of us started with the ceasar salad which had real anchovies in the dressing. My husband made his own pizza with roasted eggplant and sausage on it while I got the 4-cheese pizza (can't remember the fancy name) with added garlic and a broccoli-like-vegetable puree. We also tried the homemade ice cream- Bailey's coffee crunch and white chocolate-keylime ice cream. Both were very good. I really loved the texture and flavor of the white chocolate and keylime ice cream. We had sodas to drink and our meal was under $40 for all that. I look forward to the beer selection and sitting outside on my next visit. We've posted some photos online: http://flickr.com/photos/luxnorth/sets/72157606060064290/

lggb - Thanks for the pictures!

Caesar. 'Real anchovies in the dressing'. Now that's 'fancy',

I think it's funny that so may places stick anchovies in Caesar salad. The original recipe didn't explicitly have anchovies. It does have a little Worcestershire sauce in the dressing, which does have a tiny bit of anchovy in it though.
